Pilot Study

Ten students form Hayfield Primary School standing next to the trees they planted,
these trees are part of the pilot study.

Five standard Apple trees and three standard Crab Apple trees were planted
on the South West facing bank to the side of the May Queen Stage on the Old School Field.

The growth of these trees will be monitored by students and results will guide decisions
when planting the larger Orchard in the Autumn of 2009.

Length, weight and girth were measured and noted.
locations were found, holes dug and trees planted and supporting stakes fitted.
The Orchard Project will form part of the Key Stage programme of education for these and other students at Hayfield Primary School.
