The Bank Street Well “India” Map Ref A
‘Our main design depicts the traditional Indian dancer, and art form going back thousands of years, and the decorative background is based on ancient Hindu pattern. The side panels are taken from the current flag of India, the green stripe standing for faith, fertility and chivalry, the saffron coloured stripe for courage and sacrifice, and the white stripe for purity and truth. The Wheel of Law's 24 spokes are said to represent each hour of the day as well as the endless circle of life.
The designer of the well is Jan Abbotts and the well is sponsored by Matthew Bagshaw

Well off Swallow House Lane

Swallow House Lane Well “Japan” Map Ref: D
The country chosen for the Swallow House Lane well dressing is Japan – the so called Land of the Rising Sun and the subject in particular is “Japanese Kimono. These very beautiful, traditional garments were worn by men, women and children, although today kimono are most often worn by women and for special occasions
The word “kimono” literally means “thing to wear. Choosing an appropriate type of kimono requires knowledge of the garment's symbolism and subtle social messages such as the age of the woman, married status, as well as the level of formality of the occasion.

St John's Well

The Gospel Well at St John’s “North America” Map Ref C
The Gospel Well in Ridge Top Lane is within a circular wall in a field on the left and cannot be seen. Tradition has it that the early Methodists in the 1770’s preached in the open air near this well. As the Gospel Well site is inaccessible we have placed our well outside St John’s Methodist Church, New Mills Road, in the car park
The true Americans are the American Indians who believed that everything on earth is part of the whole, with an intimate brotherhood between all things animate and inanimate. They had no written language and totem poles, often carved from the red cedar trunks, were placed in front of their homes as memorials and as a record of family lineage.
The designer of the well is June Bennett and the well is sponsored by Jeremy Unsworth Funeral Services

Watery Hey Well “Peru” Map Ref B
Peru is a country in Western South America which boasts spectacular scenery, including the Andes mountain range and the Amazon rain forest which makes up about half of the country. Peru inevitably evokes images of Macho Picchu and the Inca empire as well as many ancient sites which are a legacy to previous great civilizations before, bequeathing a legacy of their art, customs and skills.

Australia's dramatic Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space. The corals of this World Heritage Site provide a home for countless species of marine life, including several types of sea horses. These little animals have a life style many of us would envy. The fertilized eggs are transferred to the male's pouch, he gives birth, broods and takes care of the young.
The designer of the well is Maria Gouldthorpe and the well is sponsored by The Sportsman.

The blessing of this well will take place on Monday 9th at 6.30 pm. Please walk up the farm road to the blessing.

2012 finds us in celebratory mood with the Diamond Jubilee festivities and the Olympic Games to cheer us. Our well dressing this year depicts a quintessentially English scene. Bring out the bunting and party outdoors with home-made cakes and buns, tea in china cups and saucers and, of course, strawberries with lashings of cream.
The designers of this well are Jane Nester and Mel Cranmer and it is sponsored by The Lantern Pike Inn.

The blessing of this well will take place on Sunday 8th July at 5.00 pm on The Green
