70th anniversary April 2002 at Bowden Bridge Quarry Hayfield
It was here in Hayfield that the foundations
were laid for what has become known as the 'Right to Roam'
The Mass Trespass of Kinder started from this point on 24th April
1932.
On the quarry face to the left of the picture is a plaque commemorating
this event
The organised mass trespass took place on the moor land approaches
to Kinder Scout.
Which resulted in a violent confrontation between gamekeepers
and trespassers;
resulting in the imprisonment of 4 of its leaders.
Confrontation with Landowners and their Gamekeepers took place
in William Clough and Sandy Heys
